FB 200196. 8’0” EDWARDS, W.E. QUADRATE NO. 50 3/2. 4 ½ oz. No. 6 line. 4.5/64” tip; 11/64 mid; 16/64” butt; U/L Screw lock over wood & ivory Bakelite into hooded cap; Swelled grip tapered to a square at upper end; square black Bakelite spacer; Flap-ring hook keeper; marked on butt: “Edwards “Quadrate” / #50.” in white ink; silk brown tipped yellow on bronze snakes & tip tops; Perfection stripper; N/S oxidized ferrules in special square configuration; Varnish over deeply flamed butt section & mid section; replacement tips of a lighter color. In cloth bag & black alum. tube missing cap. [Cat. 2020] FB 200196 ho. – The Quad rods were made from 1939 to 1956; they were powerful rods for their weight. This rod tossed a DT-6F Sylk with considerable authority; it could easily handle a WF-7. All sections straight and full length; both tips were replaced, but the tips are not darkly flamed, so do not match the tone of the mid & butt. The bluing on the ferrules is Very Good. I think the cork grip was cleaned up some time in the past. Both the butt & the mid show wear on the guides, and are Very Good-Near Fine. The 2 new tips show no wear. The rod fishes fine, but the shaft colors do not match. With exceptions noted, Very Good. $750 SOLD
