FB 200166. 9’0” E.C. POWELL 3/2.HB. 4 5/8 oz. #5/6 line. “B-9” action. 5/64” tip; 12/64” mid; 18/64” butt; Wells grip; U/L bright alum. screw-lock ["E.C. Powell, Maker Marysville" stamped in oval ] over hard rubber into hooded cap; bent wire hook keeper; wraps bronze silk on bronze snakes & tip tops; agate stripper; medium-tone varnished bamboo; bright N/S ferrules; butt wrap tipped with white & black silk trim indicating hollowbuilt construction; Marked with “Pat. No. 1932986” in ink on shaft by the hook keeper; one intermediate wrap between each guide; 2 wide & 2 narrow intermediates between butt & first guide. 2-up node staggering. Book matched tips. In original bag & brass-capped alum. tube. Circa early 1950’s. [Cat. 2020.] FB 200166 go. - The famous “B-9” action in convenient 3-pc. format. I cast this rod with a Cortland Sylk DT-5F, and it performed very nicely. I next cast it with a Sylk DT-6F; most people would probably prefer it with DT-6. All sections straight & full-length. Grip is moderately soiled; Agate stripper guide was damaged at some time, & has been resoldered; ferrule wrap on the butt has been redone with a darker shade of thread; lowermost snake guide on the mid had been displaced, and had an 1/8 in. overwrap of darker thread. It is great to have a B-9 rod of 9 ft. in the 3-piece configuration, because most were 2 piece, which are awkward for travel. This is a fine example of an original E.C. Powell from the early 1950’s that has not been redone, except for the noted minor repairs. Very Good. $1400
