FB 190177. 6’8” /7’8” WALTON POWELL “COMPANION” 2/2 + 1. [2 Tips & 2 Butts] 1 butt 12” shorter than other. 3 7/8 oz. in 6’8”; 4 1/2 oz. in 7’8”; 6’8” takes 4/5 line; 7’8” takes 5/6 line. 4.5/64” tip; 13/64” mid; Bright alum. U/L screw-lock over Zebra wood into hooded cap; Full Wells Grip; Bent Wire hook keeper; Marked: “A “Walton Powell” Rod / Made for / Sxxx Mxxx / By Walton Powell.” Marked on both tips & butts near ferrules: “# 1.2 -87.” Wraps maroon over bright snakes & tip tops; Ceramic stripper; Oil finish, with varnish only on wraps & writing; intermediate wrap between each guide; bright n/s ferrules; in special cloth bag holding all sections & black aluminum tube with brass caps. [Cat. 2019] FB 190177 con-sm. The “Companion” rods are great because you have 2 different rods to fish with. The shorter rod handles a DT-4 or 5 line beautifully, while the longer rod works better with a DT-5 or 6. Walton Powell always built rods that cast well because of his progressive tapers. I first met Walton in 1949, and bought many of his rods over the years. Both these rods are dead straight; the butt for the shorter rod looks like it was never used, while the grip for the longer rod shows light soiling of the cork. Fine-Near New. $1300
