In rare Edward Vom Hofe box, 4 ¾ in. x 4 ¾ in. x 4 in.; Marked: “ Edward vom Hofe and Company / 504 /2-0” inside circle on both ends of box. [Cat. 2018.] R-180252 con-pa. – This is in exceptional condition for a 80+ year-old reel. The face plate and tail plate hard rubber are blemish free. The reel foot is full length and unaltered. The screw heads appear fine, but all show some use under magnification. The 7-position drag works well over its full range. The reel is unusual for a number of reasons. It has the original Factory Box, which is considered Rare in Ted Bingham’s superb book ”THE CELBRATED REELS OF EDWARD VOM HOFE.” [Brightwater NY: 2007]. It does not have the usual 2/0 dimensions of 3 3/8” diameter faceplate with 1 3/8” width; I sold a similar 2/0 Restigouche with 3 5/8” plates & 1 3/16” width in my Catalog 38 . I also offered a 3/0 Restigouche in the Factory Box in the same catalog. Edward Vom Hofe reels do not always follow the specifications listed in Ted Bingham’s book. I bought this reel from a customer in 1980’s. His name and Pasadena CA address are written on the box cover, with a notation “150 yards 30 lb.” The customer bought the reel from “New York Hardware Trading Co, / Fisherman’s Headquarters / Since 1910 / Los Angeles Calif.” as noted on a sticker fixed to the box .My customer found this in the back shelves of the store shortly after WWII. As far as I know, he never fished it. There are no wear marks on the rims which usually occur with reels that are fished. The reel has been taken apart as evidenced by the wear on the screw heads. A fine reel for fishing or display. Near Fine. $3250
