[Cat. 72] 16-0133 con-dr. –A rare fly fishing portfolio by the prolific and popular Victorian caricaturist and illustrator John Leech. Many of the plates depict Mr. Briggs trying to catch a salmon. Leech produced over 3000 drawings and 600 cartoons for the magazine PUNCH. These are some of these drawings. Westwood & Satchell BIBLIOTHECA PISCATORIA. 1883. p. 133: “Enlarged and tinted reproductions of the drawings which originally appeared in PUNCH. Copies are now scarce and dear.” A rare humorous account of salmon fishing produced over 150 years ago. Morocco is worn on the edges with some chipping at the spine ends; all plates clean with no foxing. Many copies of this book have been broken up for the plates. Complete sets in the original book are rare. With Bookplate of Eugene Grosman on front end paper. Very Good. $950
