FB 170261. 8’6” PEZON ET MICHEL “PARABOLIC PRIMA COMPETITION” 2/2. 5 5/8 oz. 6/64” tip; 18/64” mid; D/L screw-lock alum. over cork in cap marked: “Pezon et Michel / Paris / Amboise” Wells grip; bent-wire hook keeper; Marked with decal: Made in France/ by Pezon & Michel;“ Marked: ”Prima / Competition / 8 ˝’ / Action Parabolic / 16166;” Wraps red tipped green on bronze snakes & chrome tip tops & stripper guide over straw colored varnished bamboo; blued N/S ferrules; in P&M cloth bag & unmarked alum. Tube. [Cat. 2017] FB 170261 j. –This is an unusual P&M rod; I cast it with a DT-8F and the rod hardly flexed with 70 ft. of line in the air. It has a lots of bamboo in the middle sections plus a stout tip. I would rate it for a #10 line. It would make a fine steelhead or salmon rod. The P&M Catalog for 1960 lists the PRIMA COMPETITION available with one or 2 tips. The P&M Catalog describes “Competition” Action as “..more powerful and recommended for fishing on windy days with a heavier line. Designed for stiff wrists and for those who have to pick up a great length of line.” Someone had a second tip made for this rod. The newer tip has the same guide spacing and wraps as the original, but uses American twist guides while the original has English twist guides. The original used 3-up node spacing; the replacement uses 3-up also, but the nodes are not as carefully matched. Grip mildly soiled. Very Good/Near Fine. $350
