FB 170199. 9’6” LEONARD CATSKILL bamboo 4 1/4 oz. #3/4 line. 3/2 [1 tip down 9 in.] 4.5/64” tip; 10/64” mid; 16/64” butt; D/L N/S slide band over morticed Butternut seat; N/S cap marked: “The/ H.L.Leonard / Rod/ Leonard & Mills Co. / Makers” [1890-1922]; Cigar grip; Wraps Chinese red silk with full intermediates on drop ring guides; minute red agate stripper; bright N/S serrated ferrules with worn Patent nos; Cloth bag & Alum. Tube. [Cat. 2017] 17-0199 l. –This is an early hexagonal Tonkin cane rod complete with original drop-ring guides and all fittings. Most of the original wraps are still in place, although the varnish is checked or alligatored It is very unusual to see all the original wraps on a drop-ring rod, probably dating from 1900-1905. All sections straight and full-length, except the short tip. Ferrules are tight and fit very well. A sterling example of an antique Leonard rod, and an excellent exhibition piece as found. With noted faults, Good. $350
