FB 170076. 8’6” EDWARDS, E.W. & SONS MT. CARMEL 3/2. 4 1/2 oz. #5/6 line. 4.5/64” tip; 11/64” mid; 16/64” butt; D/L slide band bright N/S over routed wood [cherry or cedar?] into N/S cap; 5 in. Cigar grip with N/S winding check; flap-ring hook keeper; marked in black ink on shaft: “Mt.- Carmel” [this is the second example I have seen of this black ink writing on a Mt. Carmel rod]; wraps gold silk tipped black at either end on medium varnished bamboo; red agate stripper; bronze snakes; red agate tip-tip on one tip; Perfection tip top on other tip; bright N/S ferrules; in Edwards cloth bag marked “Edwards /Fishing Rods”; in Edwards alum. Tube marked “E.W. Edwards / Model Mt. Carmel Length 8 ½ ft. Weight 4 ½ oz. /Manufactured by / E.W. Edwards & Sons Mt. Carmel, Conn.” [Cat. 2017] 17-0076 i. –An exquisite example of an original Mr. Carmel rod from the 1927-1931 period. Nothing has been replaced or altered. The black ink writing “Mt. Carmel” is identical to another Mt. Carmel of the same era. The red agate tip top is rare, but has been found on other Edwards rods. All sections straight and full length; ferrules fit with a satisfying pop; grip is mildly soiled. Guide wraps all original. I think the rod has been fished very little. It handles a Sylk DT-5 or 6 very nicely. The varnish has some mild bag marks on the butt. Overall, a Very Good-Near Fine example. $995 SALE PENDING
