1 9’6” CONOLON No. 2196 Custom Glass 2/1. 6 3/8 oz. #10/11 line. 1 in. Extension Butt
Good.
9’6” CONOLON No. 2196 Custom Glass 2/1. 6 3/8 oz. #10/11 line. 1 in. Extension Butt; U/L screw lock alum. Reel seat; Full Wells grip; Wraps tan nylon tipped black on chrome guides & strippers over brown glass; N/S Ferrules. Long tip 5.5 ft.; Short butt 4.2 ft. In cloth bag, no tube. [Cat.71.] 57-0849 rx. - Designed by Johnny Dieckman, the famous tournament caster, in 1951. He took a bait casting rod for the tip, & a section from a salt water boat rod for the butt. I used this rod to take salmon, steelhead, & striped bass in California in 1958, tarpon, bonefish, & permit in Florida in 1960, Atlantic salmon & sea trout in Norway & Sweden in 1961. It is a fine fishing machine. This rod used the earlier woven fiberglass fabric with a phenoloformaldehyde resin with a high-melting elastomer. The finish on these early rods often become unsightly with heavy use. This rod shows that heavy use. Unsightly but very fishable. Good. $75

11 BIRD, CAL CAL BIRD. Group of 7 FLIES.
Very Fine.
CAL BIRD. Group of 7 FLIES. Cal Bird was a wonderful tyer who had a shop at Judah Street, San Francisco. I spent many happy hours watching him tie his steelhead & trout flies. He was an innovator of fly patterns and fly-tying tools. These flies were sent to Bob Marriott who has a large tackle shop in Southern California. They are all labeled and signed by Cal Bird in individual plastic bags.: Royal Coachman #4; Bird’s Steelheader #4 & # 8 [2 flies in 1 bag]; Bird’s Stone Fly Dark Braided #6; Bird’s Stone Fly Light Braided #6; Bird’s Copper Stone Light #6; Bird’s Copper Stone Dark #6. [Cat. 72.] 16-0288 aaiqz. –The late Stanley Bogdan had been making quality salmon and trout reels since 1940. His exquisitely finished creations of anodized black and bright aluminum are crafted from solid bar stock. Fishermen and collectors have long prized his reels, which means that demand far exceeds supply. This reel is the smallest model made by Stan. It is specially set up for Left-Hand wind, and has a special black anodized finish. The reel appears to be unfished; no evidence of wear on the reel foot. As New. $2950

Bogdan leather pouch. [Cat. 72.] 16-0106 acmx. –One of my favorite Bogdans for single-hand use with a WF-8 or 9 line. This single action model hangs in the hand much better than the heavier multipliers. Also makes a great Switch or Light Spey reel. Strong adjustable drag; drag knob shows the usual Bogdan wear on the lever; outer edge of the frame shows some minor wear from setting the reel down; minor scratches on the handle counterbalance.
