This is the Pattern No. 10B Salmon & Trout Reel illustrated on pp. 76-77 of Elwyn A. Atwood: J.W. YOUNG and SONS. A Century of the Art of Fishing Reel Making. [2009]. This reel was made in the 1930’s. This handle-plate reel was similar to the Hardy Perfect, but incorporated a screw on the plate, rather than the integral screw method of the Hardy. Excellent mechanical condition. The original black enamel has been removed entirely from the face plate, external frame, and outside face of spool. The surfaces have been polished bright. Appl’d for.” One-piece black anodized alum. frame; bright alum one-piece spool; yellow knob; Improved drag consisting of a varying drag with a rotating cam on a mounted brake drum and brake shoe. The Patent for the drag was applied for on March 18, 1946 and granted on May 1, 1951 to Lowell Mont Allison of Belmont, Mass. as Patent No. 2,551,309. Reel foot of chromed brass with length of 2 ¾ in. Ingenious lift &turn spool removal system. The drag provides a wide range, and has a soft click both in and out. [Cat. 72. 16-0050 ho. –A handsome & well-designed reel that would work nicely on a salmon single-handed or on a swtich rod. The weight would make a nice match for many switch or light spey rods that require a heavier reel to compensate for the weight of the line in the water which forces the tip down into the water when fishing. Few minor knicks in frame; back plate missing a cover over the central spool area. Intials "GBG" for a silk line marked on the frame by the foot. Good-Very Good in Neoprene case. $525
